Alex started his first day of school last week at the University of Utah. With mixed emotions about being a PHD student and not a teacher for the first time in 9 years, he survived 2 weeks of driving the long 60 minute commute (one way) to Salt Lake from Provo, in 99 degree weather, in his newly converted Veggie car w/out A.C. His brain felt fried after a week-long, 8 hours a day T.A. orientation and he isn't sure if his brain can recover from the atrophy it is experiencing. Don't worry Alex, those critical thinking skills and big words will come back to you soon, even though you've been watching too many Simpsons episodes over the last 9 years.Alex will be busy working 20 hours a week as a T.A., and working as a grader for another linguistics professor for extra cash, as well as taking 4 classes (Syntax, Phonology and other fun and hard sounding classes), and trying to help me move next weekend into our new house. We (meaning Alex does the work while I keep Mateo out of the mess) plan on remodeling our 1940's mini kitchen sometime this fall. Good luck Al! Go Utes!

Oh my, what do you get when he completes that PhD other than lots of suffering to get there? How is preschool going?
Hi Paige,
Hopefully the PhD will be worth all the suffering. A full time job w/ benefits at a university is the desired goal. You can't get those jobs w/ out a PhD. Preschool is on hold for now until we move and get settled. How do you do it? Mother of 4!!
